A reason to be curious

Why it may suit you.

A space journey centred on Kara gives this a different starting point from a superhero defending one familiar city. Consider it if you want a DC story built around an uneasy partnership and the difficult distinction between personal anger and a broader sense of justice.

A journey between vengeance and justice

Kara Zor-El is drawn into an interstellar pursuit after an adversary strikes close to her. Joining an unlikely companion turns that response into a shared journey, but the people travelling together need not want exactly the same thing from it. The official premise places vengeance and justice beside each other, leaving their relationship as a question to explore.

That is a useful distinction for a superhero story. Power can make it possible to pursue someone across enormous distances without resolving what should happen when the pursuit ends. The journey therefore concerns the use of Kara's abilities as well as their scale. A companion can complicate that decision simply by bringing another experience of the harm into view.

Milly Alcock's Kara and the wider cast

Milly Alcock plays Kara Zor-El, Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll and Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem of the Yellow Hills. Jason Momoa appears as Lobo, while David Krumholtz plays Zor-El. Emily Beecham and David Corenswet are also listed in the official cast. Craig Gillespie directs from Ana Nogueira's screenplay.

The film comes from DC Studios, with James Gunn and Peter Safran producing. It draws on DC characters, but the immediate premise is a particular pursuit and partnership. New viewers can start with Kara's identity and the conflict that brings her into the journey rather than attempting to learn every unrelated DC screen continuity beforehand.

A superhero choice with a personal motive

The US classification is PG-13. Consider it for viewers interested in a cosmic setting whose central motivation is personal, and who want to compare what different characters mean when they talk about doing the right thing. The running time is approximately one hour and forty-eight minutes.

After watching, ask whether acting for someone else changes the meaning of revenge. Another question concerns the limits of a powerful protector: strength can help against an opponent, but it does not automatically make grief, responsibility or disagreement easier to handle. Those questions offer a way to discuss Kara as a character alongside the larger DC connections.
