Off Campus

A romance between two kinds of ambition

Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham begin with different priorities and different positions in university life. Hannah is a songwriter, while Garrett is a prominent hockey player. Their connection gives the opening romance more to negotiate than mutual attraction: each person has an existing sense of where their time, talent and attention ought to go.

The university setting also creates a wider social environment. A relationship develops among friends, teammates and people with their own ambitions, so the couple does not exist in a private bubble. That ensemble matters to a story about early adulthood, when a new relationship can affect how someone understands their future without being the only thing that future contains.

Briar University and the people around the couple

Ella Bright plays Hannah and Belmont Cameli plays Garrett. Mika Abdalla portrays Allie Hayes, Antonio Cipriano plays John Logan and Stephen Kalyn plays Dean Di Laurentis. Josh Heuston appears as Justin and Steve Howey as Phil Graham. The connected group offers additional perspectives on the world around the central romance.

Louisa Levy and Gina Fattore co-created the series and serve as co-showrunners. It adapts Elle Kennedy's Off Campus books, following the hockey team at fictional Briar University and the people whose lives overlap with it. The source-series structure provides a wider social world beyond the opening couple's story.

Is the hockey knowledge essential?

The central entry point is the relationship, so specialist knowledge of hockey is not the main preparation a viewer needs. The sport supplies commitments, status and a shared environment, while Hannah's music introduces a different ambition into that space. If you are choosing primarily for romance and an ensemble of friends, the premise is directly aimed at those interests.

Begin with the first season to meet the group and follow the opening connection in sequence. Readers can compare how the characters' internal perspectives become visible through dialogue and performance, while newcomers can let the television version introduce them. The university setting and adult classification distinguish it from a programme intended simply for younger school-age audiences. A useful question is whether the couple make room for each other's independent aims as their relationship changes.
