One last drive before everything changes
The friends in It Ends are at a familiar transition: they have finished one stage of life and are about to go in different directions. A late-night trip for food offers a final stretch of uncomplicated time together. Taking a wrong turn transforms that simple plan into a journey on a road that appears to have no end.
The road provides a concrete version of an otherwise abstract fear. Moving forward does not seem to produce progress, while stopping brings its own dangers. The group must respond to the immediate situation while remaining the same friends who were already unsure what their future would look like. The unusual setting and the ordinary relationship problem belong together.
A small ensemble with a clear point of entry
Phinehas Yoon plays James, Akira Jackson plays Day, Noah Toth plays Fisher and Mitchell Cole plays Tyler. Alexander Ullom writes and directs. The central group gives a newcomer a manageable set of relationships to follow, with the changing situation around the car providing the larger mystery.
The film's year is 2025 because its festival premiere took place at South by Southwest that March. Its documented US theatrical release came later, in August 2026. Those different dates refer to different stages of release and do not identify two separate films. The title here is the standalone horror feature It Ends.
A different sort of road movie
Choose this for the collision between friendship, transition and an impossible environment. The US R classification cites pervasive language. Although the cast are young adults, the premise is about facing uncertainty rather than simply enjoying a carefree graduation adventure.
One question to consider afterwards is what counts as a meaningful destination. Another is whether the wish to preserve a friendship exactly as it is can become its own form of being stuck. Those are reading suggestions drawn from the setup, not instructions to solve every event as a symbol. You can also watch it straightforwardly as four people trying to survive a road they cannot understand.
